Lake Christian Ministries Establishes Endowment Fund at The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation

Lake Christian Ministries (LCM) provides hundreds of low income families with food, financial assistance, and household items in the Smith Mountain Lake area. The Board of Directors of Lake Christian Ministries recently decided to establish an endowment fund at The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation to ensure that the organization could continue to provide needed services in the Smith Mountain Lake region. The fund was started with an initial investment of $10,000, and each member of the board of directors contributed to the endowment.

Andy Larsen, Chairman of LCM’s Strategic Planning Committee, stated “Our endowment fund will not only provide income to cover general operating expenses for our organization forever, but it will also enable us to expand to serve more needs in the lake community.” LCM has plans to expand its service area through the employment of a mobile food pantry for clients in far reaching corners of the organization’s service area.

Stuart Fauber, President & CEO of The Community Foundation, recently visited LCM’s operation in Moneta to see firsthand the good work that is being done by the organization. He stated, “the work that Lake Christian Ministries is doing is phenomenal. The establishment of an endowment fund by the board of directors is a strong signal that the board plans to provide these needed services for a long, long time.”

The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation has served Central Virginia since 1972, rendering a valuable service to the community and to donors interested in the present and future of their communities and their neighbors. In 2011, The Community Foundation gave over $1.3 million to meet essential needs in our region.
