(Lynchburg, VA – June 12, 2026) - The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation (“GLCF” or “Foundation”) announced today the recipients of its Spring 2026 competitive grants.
The GLCF Distribution Committee carefully reviewed each application received, resulting in over $589,000 awarded in competitive grants, plus over $69,000 in recommendations from our donor advised funds to 92 organizations.
Competitive grants ranged from $1,300 to $25,000. The GLCF provides grants for a wide range of needs, including food/hunger, housing, education, individuals with disabilities, animal welfare, historic preservation, our environment, and the arts. Nonprofit organizations serving the City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell are eligible to apply.
“CVCC is deeply grateful to the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation for matching Centra’s investment to complete funding for a ventilator system for our Respiratory Therapy program,” said Jodi Gillette, Executive Director of the Central Virginia Community College Educational Foundation. “This support advances student learning, strengthens our regional workforce, and enhances community health by preparing Respiratory Therapy students on industry-standard equipment to deliver high-quality care across our region from day one.”
In order to receive a grant, nonprofit organizations must submit an application describing a current project in need of funding, as well as a project budget and current financial statements. A Distribution Committee composed of members of the GLCF Board of Directors determines which projects receive funding after carefully reviewing the applications.
“The GLCF awards grants each year in varying amounts to a host of charitable organizations,” said Robert Carter, chair of the Distribution Committee. “Those grants permit recipient organizations to advance their individual goals and purposes, but those goals and purposes all have the common theme of bringing opportunity to the community. Whether recipient organizations serve children, the aged, or others, the GLCF, charitable organizations that receive grants from the GLCF, and the generous donors whose resources make it all possible are each partners in making Lynchburg and the vicinity a better place to live.”
“We are thrilled to be able to facilitate these grants across every corner of our community,” said Kathryn P. Crowder, President & CEO of the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation. “We now have 345 endowed funds created and supported by donors, and these funds generate millions in annual charitable support for our community.”
The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation was founded in 1972 and works to solve our community’s greatest challenges by providing grants and scholarships, and by helping individuals, families, and organizations create their charitable legacy. Since 1972, the GLCF has granted over $37 million to a wide variety of local nonprofit organizations including human services, animal welfare, arts, education, and historical preservation organizations.
The GLCF offers two grant cycles annually: fall and spring. The next grant deadline is September 15, 2026. In 2025, the GLCF awarded over $2.6 million to 253 charitable organizations.
